While there are hundreds of photos we could share, here are a few of my personal favorites which we took during the awards week for the 2007 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The awards week was April 28 - May 3, 2008. Click on any photo for a larger view.

The Willard Intercontinetal Hotel - Site of the Federal Agencies Breakfast.

The Washington Monument is reflected in the face of the Vietnam Memorial. Every visit to D.C. brings back the tremendous sacrifice which is made for our country.

While traveling about DC, we frequently used the Metro stop at DuPont Plaza which bears the following inscription:

Thus in silence in dreams' projections, Returning, resuming, I thread my way through the hospitals;
The hurt and wounded I pacify with soothing hand,
I sit by the restless all dark night - some are so young;
Some suffer so much - I recall the experience sweet and sad...

Meeting Representative Fortenberry for a discussion about education issues.

One of my favorite photos. Carol and I in the lobby outside of the Ben Franklin Dining Room at the U.S. Department of State.

Outside the Capitol Hill Club prior to the Congressional breakfast. I've never been seen in a jacket and tie this much!

Our home for the week, the Palomar Hotel, was located in the Embassy Row area of DC.

The fountains of the World War II Memorial on the National Mall are even more beautiful at night. Notice the parabolic water fall?

Prior to catching our flight out, we visited a few of the embassies with an "open house". The embassy of Luxemborg was one which you could visit. Note the "thank you" to the people of the United States.

  Yes, there was even some time for professional development and a lot of time to visit with our many wonderful colleagues and friends we met this week.
